Our History

The Society for the Preservation of Pluto as a Planet (SP3), began in June 2006, in the wake of the announcement that the International Astronomical Union would look to redefine the word “planet” in September 2006. A group of like-minded individuals immediately realized that Pluto’s status would need to be defended from the onslaught of prescriptivist planet-definers. And so the SP3 was born.
